Reader Profile: Q & A

Why do magazine companies such as 'Q' invest in research and how does it help them create their magazine?

They invest in research because within media, everything changes frequently. This means: different artists, different sub-genres, different events and different popularity. Therefore, to keep up with the ever-changing modern times, magazine companies (especially music magazines) need to complete surveys, gather information from each different audience-type - enough evidence of (especially the modern music industry) mainstream music and what's happening with everyday lives, whilst also discovering new talent to keep their content interesting and more appealing. This means that they'll gain a wider audience, pushing their product forward to all different walks of life. But, also keeping similar conventions (whatever type of magazine it is) so they keep up to date with regular customers who look for a specific type of magazine.
